Sea Buckthorn Oil Oral Supplementation Improves Symptoms of Dry Eye
In a randomized, double-blind, parallel trial study involving 86
women and men between the ages of 20 and 75 years, experiencing
dry eye symptoms, supplementation with 2 g/d of sea buckthorn oil
(containing omega-3 fatty acids, omega-6 fatty acids, and
antioxidants) for a period of 3 months, from the fall to the
winter, was found to attenuate the increase in tear film
osmolarity during the cold weather, and reduce the maximum
intensity of redness and burning. These results suggest that
patients with dry eye may benefit from oral supplementation with
sea buckthorn oil.
