Aging gracefully can be as simple as living a healthy lifestyle and a well-rounded diet is a big part of that lifestyle.  A healthy diet consists of such things as protein; which will help maintain and build muscles, carbohydrates; which is your body’s source of energy, dairy products or calcium for strong bones and to maintain good bone density.  Fruits and vegetable are also important in the fight against aging because they help build your immune system and keep you healthy. Water is also important as it helps keep you body hydrated and flushes your kidneys.  It is recommended that you drink six to eight cups of water a day (eight ounces each).

Exercise is diet’s partner in crime when it comes to anti-aging. It increases circulation, allows more oxygen to get into the bloodstream and helps to maintain or improve muscles.  Exercise is also thought to help your brain release “good” chemicals into your body (such as endorphins) which will help you look and feel better.  Maintaining a healthy weight is also important if you wish to fight aging effectively.  Suddenly gaining or losing a lot of weight is very hard on your body.  Your healthcare provider can recommend an effective exercise routine (if you’ve not been exercising, you should see him or her before starting any exercise program to make sure you are healthy enough to endure it).

Getting enough sleep at night is an important part of your anti-aging approach. Keeping your body well-rested is important in maintaining good health and it can also help ward off unwanted pounds. It is recommended that you get 7-8 hours of peaceful sleep a night.

Reduce Stress
Reducing stress is also a key factor in aging gracefully.  It is a well know fact that stress can affect the human body in many different ways, and cause serious health issues.  Find things in your life that you can focus on to get your mind off stress, such as a hobby or other relaxing activity. Yoga and meditation can help relieve stress and there are a wide variety of methods you can choose.  Sometimes just taking a walk everyday will reduce stress and help in your quest to age gracefully.

Protect Your Skin
There is a wide variety of anti-aging creams which may help reduce wrinkles or age spots and can help aid in your desire to age gracefully.  Some of these creams can be bought over the counter and contain ingredients like vitamin E, aloe, collagen, and other natural or synthetic chemicals.  Some people choose to see their doctor and get an anti-aging cream containing retinol A among various other chemicals.  All of these creams are believed to firm the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles or brown spots.

Wearing sun screen when engaging in outdoor activities will help protect the skin from damaging ultraviolet rays, which can cause wrinkles and increase the appearance of age spots.  Other suggestions include sleeping on your back, and not squinting when you read can help reduce wrinkles in the skin, as it is thought that these things squish or push your skin together causing wrinkles.

Aging gracefully can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make it. But by incorporating the above tips into your daily routine, you are well on your way.
