Help and Frequently Asked Questions
Here are answers to the most common questions about the Insider's Health.
Q: What is the Insider's Health?
A: InsidersHealth is an information-based website about alternative health. The site contains articles, videos, blogs, forums, natural cures, product reviews, newsletters and a glossary. Insider's Health, also known as IH, is updated daily with expert and user-generated content. We encourage everyone to submit their own health articles, videos, and natural cures. To become a contributor, all you need to do is become a member. IH includes a community forum and comments to help you connect with other people who are interested in the same health topics as you.
Q: How much does Insider's Health cost?
A: The site is free. IH Basic Members may create profiles and upload content on InsidersHealth.com for free. IH also publishes a bi-weekly newsletter, which is free as well. Premium Memberships are available with additional premium content including an eMagazine, monthly coupons and discounts on nutriitonal supplements at nutricell.com, 20% off at IH Marketplace, and more for only $9.95/month.
Q: How can I upload my own health articles and videos?
A: Uploading your own videos and articles is easy. In the Videos tab, simply click on the button that says "Upload Your Own Videos" and fill out the form. The maximum file size we allow at this time is 25MB (which is approximately a 5 minute video). In the Articles tab, click on the button that says "Upload Your Own Articles." You need to first copy and paste Word documents into Notepad (or a simple text file), and then copy and paste the content in that text file directly into the form (this is because Word tends to add strange characters and formatting when uploaded to the Web). You can then use the tools on the form to format your article. All user-submitted content is reviewed before it is posted on the site.
Q: Where do you get all of your articles and videos?
A: Some articles and videos on Insider's Health are provided by professional services we've partnered with, while other articles and videos are uploaded by contributing members and experts.
Q: How can I become an expert on Insider's Health?
A: Experts are selected by our editorial board based on several factors which include: your credentials, the quality of your work and your website, your commitment to posting at least one article or video per week on IH, and your willingness to work with us in an affiliate arrangement. If you are interested in becoming an expert, please begin posting regularly on IH for a minimum of once a week for 8 consecutive weeks. We look forward to seeing your work!
Q: Which web browser should I use on Insider's Health?
A. We recommend using Firefox 2.0 or above; the site also supports Internet Explorer 7.0 and above, and Safari.
Q: Help! I can’t sign in!
A: If you can’t remember your password, enter your email address into the login box and click on the “Forgot Your Password” link. We’ll email you a new password. Make sure to enter that password exactly as we email it (it is case sensitive). The next time you sign in, you can personalize your new password in My Profile.
Q: I’m researching a specific health condition – how do I find it?
A: You can search for specific keywords using the Search box at the top of each page. To better assist you, we've broken down the search results into Articles, Videos, Glossary, etc. You can also browse information by clicking on a topic in the Category column on the left hand side. For example, when you are in the Video section and you click on "Arthritis, Bone and Joint" in the left hand column, you will see Videos about these health conditions; when you are in the Articles section and you click on "Arthritis, Bone and Joint" in the left hand column, you will see Articles about these health conditions, etc.
Q: How do I upload my picture?
A: In My Profile, click on the "change image" link and a browsing option should appear next to an upload button. Click Browse, select an image from your computer, then click Upload. If it still doesn't work, it may be one of these problems:
1. It is best to use Firefox or Internet Explorer as other browsers can cause problems in this area.
2. If you can’t see the upload button when you’re adding your image, the problem may be that you’ve increased text size in your browser to reduce eye strain. If you’re using Firefox, go to Preferences and reduce the size of the text. If you’re using IE, go to View and change the Text Size to something a bit smaller.
3. If your image is too large, you can easily make it smaller by opening the image in a simple picture program (such as MS Paint) and pressing Ctrl+A to select the entire image. Go to Image and select Stretch/Skew, then “Stretch” the image to 70% horizontal and 70% vertical. If this is still too big, you can try this procedure again. Save the image and upload as usual.
4. Make sure you don’t have any punctuation or spaces in the image file name – for example, a file called mom’s_best_picture.jpg won’t upload because of the apostrophe and underscores.
