Today I want to speak with you about something very important.  It needs to be said because there is a dirty little secret out there under which most of you are being taken advantage… not only in terms of the money you are spending, but also in terms of your health and wellness.

See, I have dedicated my life’s work to nutrition, health and longevity.  I have written books, participated in radio and television interviews, performed lectures worldwide, and more – all to help you understand the power of nutrition when it comes to your health.

Unfortunately, not everyone sees it the way I do.  In fact, there are supplement and vitamin manufacturers out there who are pulling a fast one on you.  You think you are doing something great for your health by taking vitamin or mineral supplements.  You take pride in the fact that you’re starting your kids out on a healthy regimen early in life.  You feel like you are truly taking your health into your own hands.

But if you’re taking a conventional multivitamin, you are wrong on all of those points.

Why?  Because these multivitamins, most often found at grocery stores, pharmacies, and retailers like Wal-Mart or Target, are full of “fake” ingredients – ingredients that are literally manufactured, either by a chemical process or by reducing minerals (basically rocks) into an ingestible form.

And you thought Fruity Pebbles cereal was bad enough with its mountains of sugar, dangerous preservatives and toxic food coloring… but what about REAL pebbles? Because if you’re taking a conventional multivitamin, you’re essentially eating rocks.

Nutrition from Living Systems
Take calcium, for instance.  You need calcium to help build strong bones and teeth.  But your nervous and cardiovascular systems also depend on calcium to function properly. In recent years, research has shown that calcium has been found to reduce the risk of certain cancers.  However, there’s a huge difference from the calcium you get from a ground-up rock and the calcium you get from, say, kale or broccoli.  Conventional multivitamins contain the rock kind; but there are options that contain calcium from actual food sources, or what we like to call “living systems.”

New York Times blogger, Jane E. Brody, has this to say about the calcium you get from a rock vs. the calcium you can get from a food source, “The one indisputable fact is that the safest and probably the most effective source of calcium for strong bones and overall health is diet.”

Another nutrient, vitamin C, is often chemically composed and labeled “ascorbic acid.”  But real vitamin C, as it’s found in nature, is far more beneficial and nutritionally robust than its chemical counterpart.  Remember, you need vitamin C for all sorts of health considerations.  It’s an antioxidant, so vitamin C is essential in fighting off dangerous free radicals which can be responsible for everything from premature aging to cancer and heart disease.  The vitamin is also needed for proper wound healing, repairing and maintaining cartilage, bones and teeth, and forming an important protein used to make skin, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels.

Nature or Chemistry?
Think about it… do you really want to be ingesting something that you could probably make yourself with a semi-advanced chemist’s set?  Or would you rather be getting pure nutrients the way nature intended them to be?

Let me be blunt and honest here folks… and keep in mind, most Doctors would rather you NOT know this (most Doctors are in the ‘business of illness’, rather than preventive HEALTHCARE)… There is absolutely no better source of vitamins and minerals than your daily diet.  A lot of Doctors would be out of business if we all adhered to a balanced, healthy diet. But it’s not easy, is it?  It would be ideal if you could eat 6 to 10 servings (small fist size = one serving) of fresh, organic fruits and vegetables daily – and at least 1/3 of those servings were raw. But for some of us, that’s close to impossible; and I completely understand that. So supplementing your diet to fill in those areas we lack is the next best thing. But if you go the vitamin/supplement route, I implore you to look for food based supplements and vitamins.

I ask you to do this: take a good look at your current vitamin and supplement regimen. What kind of multivitamin are you taking?  Is it one that could have been sitting on a warehouse shelf for months – or even years at a time?  One made of fake ingredients, chemicals, powders and ground-up rocks?

Or is it one that’s composed from whole food sources, and that actually has a date of expiration – just as food does?

If it’s the latter, you are taking responsibility for your wellness in a way that will deliver huge health payoffs, both immediately and down the road.  If you’re not sure where to find such a supplement, try a natural foods store or do some research online.  I personally recommend MultiCure.  It’s not sold in stores, and it can’t be stored for an endless amount of time in a warehouse or on store shelves.  It has an expiration date because it’s made from whole food sources.  MultiCure contains 72 trace minerals, which support every major organ, gland, and muscle of the body; along with important food-based vitamins, green foods, and a full spectrum of antioxidants.

Multicure is just one option, of course.  There are others to choose from.  I just want you to find something that works for YOU, and is actually beneficial to your health rather than potentially harmful.  I can’t tell you how sickened I am every time my wife and I see someone buying ‘rocks’ at the store under the guise of ‘multivitamin’.
