I've never had problem skin in the past, but a few years ago, I was wooed by the promised benefits of mineral makeup. Being a naturalist, I loved the thought that these loose powders were paraben-free and without the fillers of traditional cosmetics (talc, mineral oil, etc.)
But with fewer ingredients, the mineral powder had a higher concentration of bismuth oxychloride, the ingredient linked to severe skin reactions like red bumps, pustules, swelling, and irritation.
Bismuth Oxychloride is what gives the makeup it's smooth, opulescent finish... And while this might look pretty, it could be wreaking havoc on your skin!
If you're experiencing sensitivity or acne AND using a mineral makeup, try swapping it out for a sensitive skin product or discontinuing it for awhile. That made all the difference for me!
