It may seem counterintuitive, but I find that exercise - even as little as 20 minutes does the trick to get me energized and ready for the day. I go for a run every morning, and if I happen to miss a morning (because I feel I need that extra 40 minutes of sleep), I am more tired than if I'd gotten up and headed out the door. I find that without my morning workout, I'm sluggish and barely make it through the day. A few years ago I was suffering from lack of energy, almost to the point of depression. But, when I resumed my exercise, the fatigue disappeared and the depression lifted. If you're not a runner, even a short, brisk walk or 20 minutes of a work-out DVD might help. Just a suggestion, but I know for a fact it works for me!

If you repeatedly wake up tired and continue to feel that way during the day, you might be lacking fluids. Your body can get dehydrated, even in the few overnight hours that you're asleep. Try drinking a tall glass of water shortly after waking up, and continue to drink during the day. I recently overextended myself on a hot, sunny day and paid for it the entire next week with fatigue and low energy. It took a whole week of getting enough fluids for my body to catch up!

Exercise and water are both important factors that will help increase your energy along with getting enough sleep. Getting enough nutrients and antioxidants into your body will help to repair and boost your energy.n Herbs are great natural remedies to get antioxidants into our bodies, one herb that is starting to get recognized and the Chinese text of herbs & medicine list this as the number 1 herb for health and wellness and longevity. Reishi or Ganoderma is known in the Asian community but just starting to get introduced to North America. nnA company called Organo Gold produces ganoderma in capsules and spore powder capsules and also uses coffee, latte, mocha, green tea and hot chocolate as a way of delivering this herb. I have taken this herb everyday for 4 years, have not been sick in those 4 years with tons of energy. Now I drink the coffee, each cup has 200 nutrients including 150 different antioxidants. nIf you want more info on this product send me an email to d.sim@sympatico.ca and just put ganoderma in the subject line.nnDarren Sim n

Hello! Two suggestions -- one appears on these pages (digestive enzymes). I have just discovered digestive enzymes myself (did not follow a suggestion made to me by an alternative physician three years ago, and now I understand how important they are. At age 71 I want all the health and energy I can get!nnWithout any knowledge yet of advertisers on these pages, I ordered an excellent, small ebook online about a week ago; it was very thorough and understandable. I immediately have gotten myself on digestive enzymes and continue to research to make sure I am on the optimum brand for me. He gives several in his book.nnI will look for the link to the book for you, if you want it. The title is THE MISSING INGREDIENT FOR GOOD HEALTH, by Lee Euler. I checked him out online, and he got good reviews. We don't know what we're missing when we cook our food, eat a lot of processed food, etc. And Seniors have enough of a challenge getting the nutrition our bodies need through digestion. My husband and I are both now taking what I found initially while awaiting a link that worked, which is subject to change, based on his advice.nnThe book is $19.95 and while only 55 pages, it's well worth it for the full information it contains.nnThe other suggestion (again from my own experience) is to get your thyroid checked by a very reputable endochrinologist. I had asked a friend who is a lab manager whom she recommended (they know the good doctors). Through her I found a very good one whom I saw two days ago (after about 3 months wait, due his popularity), and learned that in wanting to adjust my own dosage of thyroid I have been playing with my health. I have to allow longer periods to explore results (longer than two weeks). He asked me to lower my dosage by 1/4 grain (25 mg.), and see him again in 12 weeks, with new blood work done in 10 weeks.nnThe endochrinologist I've been seeing does nothing to check what is going on with me, beyond the lab work, just stands across the room and gives me his speech each visit! I only see him because it is difficult to get a doctor to accept Medicare in my city. I do ask for referrals, however, and eventually get them.nnI've read a fair bit about thyroid symptoms and been having challenges with back and hip muscle pain for many months (actually several years). The same earlier doctor had me on 2 Gr. NaturThroid for over a year, before I learned about back pain and thyroid! That was way too much.nnSome of this can be attributed to food sensitivities (which I'm now expecting the digestive enzymes to help with over time), and some could be the way I have my sleep number bed adjusted. But some can be thyroid that is either too high or too low (yes, it's crazy!) Time will tell as I get all of these things sorted out in good order.nnThird thought: I've read that our sleep cycles can interfere with waking up rested if we do not get enough of the deep sleep. So it's good to get rid of anything that interferes with our sound sleep.nnHope this is helpful.nnJannettenJanCounselor

Having a consistent sleep schedule is important. The body likes routine, and consitent daily healthy routines can help pull you out of an energy depleted state. You may may deficient in vitamin D. The best way to ensure optimal vitamin D levels is through proper sun exposure, enough to turn your skin light pink. This can happen in as little as 20 minutes for a fair skinned person or as much as an hour or more for a dark skinned individual. At least 40% of your skin should be exposed. If you live in a cold climate where sun exposure is not possible in the late fall, early spring and winter you can take a vitamin D3 supplement (Bio-D Mulsion is a good one) but you should get you levels checked and monitored so you do not overdose because, via oral supplements, overdosing is possible. With sun exposure there is no possibility of too high a vitamin D level. Some safe products which do not make you feel jittery, don't drain your adrenal glands (such as some herbal stimulants can), and can be taken daily long term are Quantum Genergy and G-H3. I researched the safety of these products before considering trying them and found that they have been used long term by numerous people with no ill side effects. I have used these 2 products for over a year because I noticed improvement in my energy levels soon after taking them, as well as improved quality of sleep and ability to focus on demanding tasks, physical or mental. These products have been used by cancer patients using no-harm alternative therapies, as well, to increase energy levels and oxygenate the body.

It could be a blood pressure issue....mine has been very low all my life and it matters not what I do or what I take I have the tiredness all the time.
Doctors think their blood pressure machines have stopped working when they see mine is so low!! They have said that they don't know how I am walking around as my blood is just crawling through my veins, but I can meet any challenges and targets and I am as busy as I want to be, except that I am ALWAYS tired.
I am a vitamin freak and have tried all sorts of things recommended on the natural market, but nothing makes any difference, so for me its all down to blood pressure.

I'm just glad I wake up each morning...thousands don't!!!
