Celebrity Mental Health Disorders

I got hooked watching a show called "Celebrities in Crisis" --not because I didn't think these people had any emotional issues or because I knew they had so many and I was just being a voyeur-- but because after each one, it said the best therapies are alternative ones like psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, behavior modification, acupuncture, diet, and exercise. From depression (Delta Burke and Howie Mandel have a compulsive disorder) to anxiety (Kristin Dunst and Heather Locklear) to postpartum depression (Brooke Shields and Gwenyth Paltrow) to bipolar disorder (Linda Hamilton and Carrie Fisher), even agoraphobia (Kim Basinger) ALL SAY THAT behavior modification works. What happens is people self-medicate with drugs and alcohol but that makes it worse. The key for all these people was admitting to their own condition. Once that happens, it is highly manageable and it's okay to talk about it. Behavior modification is basically using your mind to distract you from the experience, instead of drugs or alcohol. I'm curious does anyone have a specific experience with behavior modification?
