Board-certified gastroenterologist Patricia Raymond, MD, author and assistant professor of Clinical Internal Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School, can help address important information about intestinal gas and how to find relief. She also has a strong interest in IBS and celiac disease.
Patricia Raymond, M.D., is a board-certified physician in gastroenterology and general internal medicine. She practices patient-centered gastroenterology in Chesapeake, Virginia, and is an assistant professor of Clinical Internal Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School as well as a Fellow of the American Colleges of Physicians and of Gastroenterology. In addition, Dr. Raymond was named YWCA Woman of Distinction in medicine in 2004.
Dr. Raymond has a strong interest in irritable bowel syndrome and celiac disease, both conditions in which gas is a prominent symptom. She is a proponent of natural, activated charcoal for the control of flatulence and the discomfort, pressure and bloating that results from excess gas. Dr. Raymond understands that while gas is not a subject everyone is comfortable discussing, through her sense of humor she gets her patients to open up so that they can get the treatment and tests needed.
A graduate of the Medical College of Virginia, Dr. Raymond completed her internship and residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Over the years, she has been a member of many professional organizations, including the American College of Gastroenterology, the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Women’s Association, and the American Society of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Raymond is the author or chapter contributor of four books, including the colonoscopy joke anthology and cult classic Colonoscopy: It’ll Crack U Up, as well as Don’t Jettison Medicine, an inspirational read for professionals in the medical field. She has also penned many scientific abstracts and articles on gastrointestinal disorders. Over the past 15 years, Dr. Raymond has also given more than 250 lectures and presentations to medical peers and students.
Dr. Raymond is no stranger to the media world. She’s host of National Public Radio’s Housecalls (a regional show which aims to challenge patients to accept responsibility for their own health). She’s a frequent contributor and editorial board member of My Family Doctor Magazine: The Magazine That Makes Housecalls. Dr. Raymond also writes for the Passionate HealthCare Newsletter, EndoNurse Magazine, and the GI Health Newsletter.
