Consumption of Artichokes Enriched with Probiotics May Alleviate Constipation
In a study involving 8 subjects, consumption of artichokes (180 gr)
enriched with probiotics (20 billion L.paracasei LMGP22043), added
to the subjects' usual diet, was found to markedly reduce symptoms
of constipation (reductions in abdominal distention and feeling of
incomplete evacuation). The authors conclude, "These preliminary
data suggest that novel approaches for treating constipation can
come through ingestion of probiotic vegetable products that, acting
as symbiotics, can ameliorate this common disorder"
