AuthorQaQuestion
Is honey as healthy for you as they say? And if so, why is it not suggested?

-- Randy D

Answer
I like honey but remember that it is still a "sugar". Just because you are using honey don`t think that you can double up on the dose of the honey to make the beverage sweeter. I use honey in my practice in people with seasonal allergies. The bees carry the pollen in minute quantities and one can be desensitized form some of the seasonal allergies they have. The key is to get honey from your local area and not from a supermarket.

Can you recommend supplements or treatments for pre and post hip replacement surgery to speed healing and recovery?

-- Beverly

Answer
I prepare my patients about a month before surgical procedures with Probiotics, Vitamin C and Zinc. The reason for the probiotics is post surgically most of the time antibiotics are given to prevent infections. The antibiotics not only kill the "bad bugs" but also kill off the " good bugs". The good bacteria must be put back into the system to prevent further complications from antibiotics. Vitamin C and Zinc are both beneficial for wound healing. It is important to remember that supplements of all kinds must be stopped 5-7 days before surgery. The reason that the supplements must be stopped is the potential interaction between the supplements and the anesthesia.

Do you know of any treatments or supplements to cure vision loss due to stroke. hemianopsia?

-- Bob

Answer
Loss of vision due to stroke is due to loss of viable tissue in the area of the brain that controls vision. Unless the tissue is re-vitalized it is nearly impossible to regain full vision.
The supplements I use in my practice for people with vision concerns are lutein and the carotinoids. The source of the carotinoids are green leafy vegetables like spinach and kale.
The is also some data from Ohio State University that the tocotrionols (forms of Vitamin E) may have some benefit in people post stroke. Good data supporting the use of Fish oils is also available.
The only issue I have is that the Vitamin E and the Fish oils may have a "thinking effect" on the blood so caution must be used with these supplements post stroke.
The most important issue post stroke is that blood pressure must be in perfect control. High blood pressure is the #1 cause of stroke in the U.S.

Do you believe in colon cleansing and if you do, which one would you recommend and how often should this be done?

-- Sheila S.

Answer
I do believe in colon cleansing. I personally do it at the change of every season. The Native American and many Eastern cultures do colon cleansing at the change of seasons because the foods they consume vary at different times of the year. There are many theories as to why colon cleansing is beneficial, but the bottom line is that it is likely beneficial for our general well being.

AuthorQaQuestion
I understand that you are a healer. I am a Type 2 diabetic with high blood pressure. Is there a cure for Type 2 diabetes, and what can I do to get my blood pressure normal?

-- Jo Anne

Answer
Yes, I would consider myself a healer but not a miracle worker. Only you can work the miracles and "cure" yourself.
The combination of high blood pressure and Type-2 Diabetes has many risks. The #1 thing that you can do to help thy self is diet control and exercise. As with all supplements there is no magic bullet. Many in the field imply cures but the cures truly come from within.
Supplements will play a role and help but weight control and exercise are the most effective in the control of DM and high blood pressure.
The supplements I use in my diabetic patients are probiotics, CoQ10 and B Vitamins. There is also some data on the use of chromium for weight control and blood sugar control. Gymenium also has some data oP blood sugar control.
Probiotics are my favorite supplement. The good bacteria is critical in DM due to the potential over growth of the bad bacteria in the diabetic state. The CoQ10 is necessary due to the loss of CoQ10 as a complication from the prescription medications and the B Vitamins help support the nerve damage from the diabetes.
The bottom line in diabetes and high blood pressure control is...DIET- DIET- and DIET.

AuthorQaQuestion
I have had a severe case of plantar faciitis and discovered that protein (meat and protein drinks) was aggravating the situation. I stopped all protein and after almost 2 years of suffering, 3 doctors, and facing surgery I finally found some relief. After 2 full month of no protein my plantar faciitis was nearly gone. Further research taught me that the Liver controls sinue and ligiments (I concluded also tendons) and that the Liver can be aggravated by excessive protein. OK!
That was about 1 year ago, however, even today if I have one meatball or one 3 gram protein bar my heels start to hurt before the day is over. My question is .....HOW CAN I "SOOTHE" or "CALM DOWN" MY LIVER?

-- Loretta C.

Answer
There is no question that the liver is a critical organ. Most people ignore the fact that a liver cleansing is essential. I personally take milk thistle or chisandra a few times a week. The liver is a filter and all the toxins that are ingested, inhaled and absorbed through the body must be broken down(detoxified) in the liver. The liver like any other filter will get clogged and must be flushed out. Thus the need for the milk thistle or chisandra. These herbs act like a brush that cleans out the cells in the liver. Congratulations on your awareness.

AuthorQaQuestion
L take omega3, where can l get salmon oil localy? Why is it so much better than Walmart's omega3?

-- Thomas M.

Answer
Salmon oil has a much higher concentration of EPA and CLA than any other Omega supplement. The cold water fish(salmon) have a higher concentration of DHA and Omega-3. We do know for a fact that salmon live in cold waters and the oil is much richer in essential fatty acids. The Omega-3 fatty acids have many applications. They vary from heart and joint health to brain health. The dosages vary of each system and product quality is critical for beneficial results.

AuthorQaQuestion
What is CoQ10?

-- 0

Answer
CoQ10 is THE essential nutrient of life! Not only is this enzyme responsible for up to 95% of body's energy, it acts as an antioxidant helping prevent illness and disease. Clinical studies have indicated significant benefits for low energy, heart disease, strengthening the immune system, Parkinson's, and several forms of cancer.

AuthorQaQuestion
What does CoQ10 do?

Answer
Every bodily function requires a specific amount of energy and CoQ10 is essential for the body to make this energy. It is also a potent antioxidant (it protects the body from "rusting").

AuthorQaQuestion
Does my body make CoQ10?

Answer
Yes. Produced in the body and distributed ubiquitously throughout, CoQ10 has been given the scientific name ubiquinone. It is found in the mitochondria (powerhouse) of every cell, but is especially abundant in body cells with highest metabolic activity, such as the heart, liver, kidneys, brain and muscles.
