You really need to follow up your medical doctor. I can not make a diagnosis in the venue. My role here is to give people guidance and my guidance to you is to see a medical doctor and get a diagnosis.

AuthorQaQuestion
Would you have any information about acai, what it is good for, and is it important, thank you, sandra w.

-- Sandra W.

Answer
Acai is a fruit with antioxidant(AO) properties. It has a high ORAC value and this makes it a potent antioxidant. It has multiple benificial uses for the body. Besides the AO properties it has mild anti-inflammatory properties. I like the juice but be aware of the cost of this "trendy"product.

Dr D DeSilva-----Could you please answer this question for me?

I have ringing in my ears&pressure on the top of my head?

What can I do ?

Thank you ,Sophie .T.B.

-- Sophie B.

Answer
Ringing in the ears is known as tinnitus. About 60% of people with tinnitus have a hearing loss. Please make sure you get your hearing tested. There is some data to support the fact that gingko may help people with ringing in the ears. Asprin and asprin like compounds will also make tinnitus worse but you can not stop asprin without checking with your doctor. So follow up with your doctor and see an ENT doctor for a good hearing evaluation.

Dear Dr. DeSilva: I am 55. I have M.S. and am wheelchair bound. I am morbidly obese. I cannot lose weight. I find exercise difficult being in this chair. My MD only suggests weight loss surgery. I don't want to do this. Please help me Dr. DeSilva. There must be another way. This sedentary life is killing me. I think I could go back to a walker if I could just get this weight off but don't know where to turn. Thank you.

AuthorQaQuestion
How many carbs are too many for a type 2 diabetic, thank you

sandra w.

-- Sandra W.

Answer
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) recommends that approximately 50 percent to 60 percent of total daily calorie intake should be in the form of carbohydrates. Some people may find this range works for them, but others will find that consuming that amount hampers their diabetes control. Working with your diabetes care team to discover how different foods and carb levels impact your control is the best way to determine your optimal daily carb intake level. Speak with your physician about a presciption to speak with a daibetic educator.

Hello, i hear salba is a natural super food, that helps keep your blood sugar in check, but will it work on its own or does it need the aide of metformin, thanks sandra w.

-- Sandra W.

Answer
I will start off by saying that you MUST NOT try to adjust your medications without your medical doctor. Salba is a good product and has a benificial effect on blood sugar. You will need to follow your blood sugars and monitor the levels and work with your doctor as to the adjustment of the medications.

AuthorQaQuestion
Hello, i check labels on everything i get to eat, but lately i have seen an ingredient on labels called sugar alcohol, and i dont know what it is. do you. thank you, sandra w.

-- Sandra W.

Answer
Sugar alcohol is sweeter than table sugar and contain fewer calories. It is a very sweet form of sugar and is not metabolized by oral bacteria and does not contribute to tooth decay. It also does not get absorbed in the small intestine and will have little effect on blood sugar. As with any form of sugar use this with caution also.
