Quitting smoking may be the hardest thing you will ever have to do. Conventional approaches to quitting smoking can range from behavioral modification and spoken therapy to nicotine replacement with patches or gum and prescribed medications. These last options certainly can reduce withdrawal effects and cravings for some, but it can also cause unwanted side effects. For some people, conventional treatments might be limited in their short- and long-term effectiveness, or they might be too expensive, inconvenient, or inaccessible. For these individuals, meditation offers either an alternative or complementary approach to improve the odds of success in quitting smoking.

recent string of scandals, a team of researchers have uncovered evidence among internal tobacco industry documents that reveal a sick truth. Tobacco companies were aware that cigarette smoke contained harmful radioactive particles as early as 1959, yet chose not to inform the public and even fought to keep it a secret.

The FDA recently revealed new graphic warnings for cigarette labels, which are causing rather strong reactions among both smokers and non-smokers alike. It's been more than two decades since any type of new label was released, and these new warnings paint an ugly picture of the
negative physical effects of smoking. They will be required to cover at least 50% of every pack of cigarettes sold in the US by the year 2013.
