I recently discussed the principles of integrative medicine in oncology and shared the latest research on the role of Modified Citrus Pectin (MCP) in the treatment of cancer at an international oncology conference in Rhodes, Greece.
Getting a
screening test done for breast cancer (whether it is for the first time or just to make sure it's completely gone) has usually been limited to two forms of detection: the breast MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), and the ultrasound. Another two techniques are now available. Both have different specialties, a few weaknesses, and overall might be too complex to become as common as the MRI or ultrasound, which are both relatively simple procedures.
A new pre-clinical study conducted by researchers at the Indiana University Health Methodist Research Institute confirms the dramatic effects of one particular natural formula against aggressive prostate cancer tumors.
As if you needed another excuse to
drink wine. . . A recent study shows that an antioxidant called resveratrol can potentially stop the growth of breast cancer. Perfect timing, since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Maybe they should officially name it “Wine Month” as well!
Scientific giant. Technological visionary. Genius. All can be used to describe one man – Steve Jobs. Jobs, the co-founder of Apple Inc., passed away on Wednesday due to complications from
pancreatic cancer, which he had battled since 2004. He was 56. (Image courtesy of Wikimedia)
When it comes to integrative cancer treatment, I always emphasize the importance of “patient-driven medicine.” Patient-driven medicine is what true integrative medicine is about.
Even with the medical and technological advancements of the 21st century, a horrific war continues to rage on. It’s a war against cancer, and every scientific breakthrough is one step closer to victory. Now, in an offensive move, scientists have finally found a successful approach to fighting
leukemia cancer cells. This novel approach makes a patient’s own blood cells turn into lean, mean, killing machines by hunting and destroying their own cancer cells.
As firefighters, policeman, and ordinary citizens first walked through the rubble of the World Trade Center after the
September 11, 2001 terrorist attack, probably the last thing on their mind was the possible cancer risk. However, some First Responders and residents who lived close by, and then developed cancer after 9/11, believe there is a link between their disease and the cloud of toxins that arose from the destruction of the twin towers. To their chagrin, a U.S. government review has determined there is no proof that exposure to the dust and debris resulting from the fall of the World Trade Center caused cancer.

Receiving a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer is perhaps the most devastating news a person can receive. Despite aggressive treatment, the prognosis is not a good one. In fact, pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers known.
Herbal supplements that contain scientifically-researched nutrients, medicinal mushrooms, minerals, and botanicals from both traditional herbal medicine and modern western medicine are highly effective for improving prostate health and preventing the onset of cancer.
As more research continues on the role of galectin-3 in a wide range of diseases, the usefulness of Modified Citrus Pectin will continue to grow as well, offering new hope to patients seeking safe and effective therapies for fighting disease and restoring health naturally.
You probably didn't see it on a movie poster outside your local theater or watch the trailer on TV. But recently a groundbreaking movie was released that could very well shift the paradigm surrounding the treatment of one of the deadliest diseases known to man – cancer.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recently issued a statement confirming what many people have thought for some time now–cell phones may increase the risk of cancer. This comes in the wake of a recent (but inconclusive) study that revealed that
cell phone communication alters brain activity. What’s really interesting is that it appears that no one is frantically running through the streets in panic, or tossing their cell phones in the trash. Perhaps that’s because we’re so accustomed to constantly being connected to our family and the outside world that we’re actually willing to take the gamble. Or maybe we’re just not convinced.
Your cells are your foundation for health. If your cells begin behaving or functioning abnormally, your foundation will begin to crumble, leaving you vulnerable to a wide range of health problems.
Of all the factors that could influence cancer and survivorship, it’s a tragedy to think that sexual orientation is one of them. However, that is exactly what a new study has concluded: gay men have a greater prevalence of cancer than heterosexual men, and bisexual and lesbian female cancer survivors have more health problems than their heterosexual female counterparts.
Imagine if something as simple as breast milk could be a predictor for
breast cancer risk. According to a new study, it just might happen one day. Kathleen Arcaro, professor of veterinary and animal sciences at the University of Massachusetts–Amherst, states that breast milk might prove just as useful as the traditional screens and biopsies currently used when searching for the earliest signs of breast cancer. What’s
good for babies could turn out to be a very good thing for moms, too.
One of the major
obstacles in cancer treatment when using vaccine or immunotherapy is tumors often sidestep the body's immune response – the mechanism the body uses to recognize and defend itself against disease agents. A new study of prostate tumors has led to identifying a gene, FOXO3, which is responsible for the suppression of immune cells.
Fortunately, however, by learning the gene's identity it may also be possible to enhance the immune response to cancer tumor cells.
For most of the lathering on the
sunscreen before going out in the sun is simply second nature. Both the medical community and the media have been bombarding us with reports of the dangers of the sun for years, yet the incidence of
melanoma continues to rise despite the use of sunscreen. Obviously, a more successful preventative approach is needed. Fortunately, Penn State College of Medicine researchers may have found the answer.
Unless you or someone close to you is living with
diabetes, you may be surprised to learn that it is one of the major causes of
early illness and premature death across the globe. One reason for this is that diabetes, especially type-2 diabetes, is often undetected for many years and the diagnosis is made only because of the associated complications of the disease. For example, diabetes can contribute to kidney problems, vision loss, and heart complications - conditions that require medical treatment. Now, a new study reveals that diabetes may increase the risk of some
cancers as well.
Modern medicine has always derived the raw materials for pharmaceutical drugs from nature, as nature provides delicate yet powerful ingredients for balance and wellness.
