Why You Should Be Considering Krill Oil Over Regular Fish Oil When it Comes to Heart Health
Recent studies indicate that Krill Oil works better at reducing fat in the heart and liver than the Omega-3 fatty acids found in regular fish oil. Krill is a product that is found in the deep seas and is available in supplement form. According to a new preclinical study by Aker BioMarine, a biotechnological company, there are many benefits to krill oil that may even outweigh the healthy benefits of taking fish oil in supplement form.
The study that was performed in Italy tested the effects of Krill oil over the effects of fish oil. The study was performed on laboratory rats that were obese. The results of the study indicated that krill oil reduced the fat content in the heart by 42 percent in the animals. To the contrary, fish oil reduced the fat in the heart by only 2 percent. Having a high level of fat content in the heart can lead to poor heart function, including heart failure. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce fat content in the heart so that heart disease and heart failure can be avoided.
When it came to the fat content in the liver, the study indicated that krill oil reduced the amount of fat in the liver of the animals by 60 percent. This compared to the 38 percent reduction in fat in the liver from the fish oil. The end results of the study were that krill oil can significantly reduce the amount of fat in the heart and liver more than just fish oil.
It’s important to note that the study was performed on obese rats. Obesity can lead to heart disease as well as digestive disease as well as a number of different cancers. Many suspect obesity to be linked to liver cancer as the increase in this type of cancer is on the rise. Whereas liver disease used to be found only in those who had cirrhosis of the liver, usually from drinking, or hepatitis, there has been an increase in liver disease and cancer in recent years that parallels the rise in obesity.
Krill oil is a type of fish oil that contains many of the same properties that exist in “regular” fish oil. Krill is a type of sea creature that is found in the depths of the ocean. Although the study was performed on laboratory animals, there is no indication that the results would be any different on humans as the effects of fish oil on the human heart and liver have been studied and documented as being beneficial.
Krill oil is available in a number of different outlets, including health food stores as well as online outlets. It can be taken as a supplement in capsule form. As is the case with fish oil that contains Omega-3s, there are benefits to the heart and digestive system when taking this supplement.
Heart disease is the number one killer in the United States. In fact, more people die from heart disease than all of the cancers combined. And, as many people use Omega-3 fish oils to protect their heart, this study gives an even better option when it comes to the health of your heart and liver.
