Wayman Tisdale Dies of Bone Cancer

More sad news for sports fans came today as it was announced that former NBA player, Wayman Tisdale, succumbed to bone cancer at the young age of 44. He had been battling the cancer for the last two years.

Tisdale was a three-time All American at Oklahoma, where he played from 1983-1985. He went on to play for the Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings and the Phoenix Suns, and also won a Gold medal as part of the U.S. Olympic basketball team in 1984. After his basketball career ended, Tisdale went on to become a jazz musician.

The cancer that took Tisdale’s life was discovered two years ago, after he fell and broke his leg. After a series of chemotherapy treatments, Tisdale decided to have his leg amputated last August. This was, according to Tisdale, one of the best ways to ensure the cancer would not win. Unfortunately, the type of cancer was particularly aggressive, and in the end did win.
