Too Much of This in Your Blood Increases Your Risk of Alzheimer's by 65%


If you're one of the millions of Americans with type-2 diabetes and insulin resistance, you probably know how important it is to manage and guard your physical health. But now your mental health may be at risk, too.

A study has shown that people dealing with type-2 diabetes and/or insulin resistance have a greater chance of developing plaques in their brains–the same plaques that are associated with Alzheimer's disease.

Approximately 135 elderly patients screened for signs of Alzheimer's for 10 to 15 years were observed. After their death, autopsies revealed brain plaques in those who had high glucose levels while living. 16% of the study participants had full-blown Alzheimer's disease.

But there were plaques in the brains of the other participants who had higher than normal blood glucose levels. To break it down even farther, 72% of people with insulin resistance had the plaques. All this leads to insulin resistance as a possible accelerator of the brain plaques.
