As one of the editors of Insider's Health, I get to meet a lot of fascinating people. Perhaps the most exciting person I've interviewed this year is Dr. Theresa Dale, one of the leading specialists on women's hormone therapy. She is a Certified Clinical Nutritionist, Traditional Naturopathic Practitioner, and BioEnergetic Medical Consultant. I caught up with her as she was analyzing test results and preparing for a 3-day health conference.Q: Hi Dr. Dale, thank you for spending time with me. I'd like to first ask you, how did you start your quest for an alternative healthy lifestyle?
A: I started my quest for optimal health and wellness because I had no choice, I had to! What happened is that I had a tumor when I was 22 years old on top of my uterus. I was living in New York City at the time and my physician/general practitioner found it. We palpated it and X-rayed it twice, by the second time it had grown. He said I would need surgery, and I said no. I didn't know anything about it but I sensed that somehow I created it by my genetics and lifestyle so I thought to myself, if I created it, I can fix it. I was not taking care of my health back then, in fact, I was doing harmful things for my health, like not eating good food and smoking. My mother had nine surgeries and I realized surgery was not an option for me. I knew there had to be an alternative so I fearlessly went into a health food store and I picked up a copy of the book How to Get Well by Paavo Airola. There was a recommended diet for if you had a tumor so I started following it. My doctor and I didn't know if the tumor was cancerous or not, but I said no biopsy. I kept telling myself, it's going to go away. Spirit was definitely guiding me at that time. I continued to follow the diet and when I went back to my doctor for another X-ray it was gone. He said I should come back in a couple months, so I did and it was still gone. I decided I wanted to do this for a living, so that's what started me on my quest: healing myself on my own.Q: That's an amazing story. You must have been quite scared to have to deal with a tumor at such a young age.
A: I was very scared but I took responsibility for it, and it felt good and empowering, even at my young age. Actually I knew at 8 years old that I was going to be a healer but I forgot about that epiphany for many years until this came. I had a lot of spiritual experiences as a kid which also helped guide me into this profession. My childhood was traumatic. I was living in a negative, unsupported environment. When I left home, I was on top of the world to be able to create my own environment. I think people take their freedom and will-power for granted. When people complain and whine and say they don't like doctors, it's probably them. They need to take responsibility that they helped create whatever illness or disease they have. Many people don't know how to process their emotions or their experiences from childhood, and on some level, that negative energy builds up. If we don't have tools to deal with that, it will only manifest itself in harmful ways. I've created tools to help people. I always say, if a person is not in a supporting environment they need to get there. Q: Which tools have you created to help people heal themselves?
A: I clearly saw the need for patients to heal their body by releasing core emotional issues causing disease. I created a very useful tool called the Meta-Wellness Home Study Program. It's a self-healing kit that incorporates a workbook to help you work out your beliefs and emotions. The other tool is Neurophysical Reprogramming which is a medical model and a method that I train medical doctors all across the linear aspect of health providers. It's a process whereby they come to my training and they learn it, and they can do it with their patients. These tools go very deep into healing. One is where you go to a NPR practitioner, and one you can do yourself. You'd be surprised how many people want to do it themselves.Q: And you specialize in hormones, correct?
A: Yes. Consumers are bombarded with false information about menopause, and bio-identical and natural hormones. Bio-identical sounds good but it's not the truth. I invented and formulated a naturopathic approach to balancing hormones called EndoPure Homeopathic Rejuvenation. It incorporates a 24-hour circadian rhythm saliva test, endocrine rebuilding diet, homeopathy and meridian balancing. It's an advanced system of endocrine healing and rebuilding using transdermal creams, which is a new homeopathic delivery system. Basically, I want to help women get off hormones. I got fed up that women are so victimized. Women need to be told the facts. Women are being hyped to death. Instead of hormone replacement, I advocate homeopathic hormone rejuvenation. Replacement therapy is not healing, it's addictive, and it slows the body down. My products have more research that any other company on the planet regarding hormone rejuvenation and not replacement. We have 13,000 before and after case studies showing that women's bodies can heal using these products along with good diet. All of my research is third-party. A key factor in my method is using saliva testing, which is a better indicator of biologically active hormone levels than blood.
Q: When I first called you, you mentioned that you are analyzing a saliva test for a doctor right now.
A: I am. I'm seeing how the testosterone levels are all elevated, and the estrogen is elevated. Why? Because this woman is on bio-identical hormones. It's toxifying her body. It's a no-brainer that this stuff is toxic, and for women to be told by celebrities and people who profit, it's disheartening to see. The test I'm evaluating right now looks at advanced hormones, food intolerance, and parasites. I test to find out if the adrenal glands are making enough progesterone. This woman is 58 years old and lives in Louisville, Kentucky; she's allergic to milk, soy, and eggs. I can see that she's got roundworm and tapeworm. No wonder she's not feeling good! Adrenal glands have to do with aging: if they're balanced, if they're healthy, then your body will not age as much, it will make the appropriate amount of hormones. Hormones are made from your ovaries and your adrenal glands, the adrenal glands pick up the slack. Taking any hormones can also exacerbate fibroids or cysts. If you're good to your adrenal glands, you can go through menopause with no hot flashes and a healthy libido. Your readers can order my Menopause, Nutrition and Lifestyle Monitor (Five Element Saliva Test), which will assess their hormone levels. I then customize a program just for them. This program offers my recommendations for homeopathic, nutritional and lifestyle solutions according to each person's menopause symptoms.Q: You're so passionate about your work, it's inspiring. What drives your passion?
A: Human beings, human health, optimal health, optimal wellness. I don't give up on people. I've heard people say they've gone to four doctors and nothing's worked. I'll keep working with them. I love working with people. I've worked with a lot of children too, I love working with children. I've also worked with pets. Right now I'm involved with all of the research related to anti-aging so that your body can be healthy at any age. Managing stress levels is very important and so is healing the adrenal glands and doing the right things for them.Q. What do you recommend people do to take care of their bodies?
A: Be nice to your adrenal glands. Give up junk food, get off caffeine, get off estrogen patches, try my products, read my books. It's very important to eliminate toxic food, including meat with hormones, foods with pesticides, and sugar. Keep your cell phone use to a minimum and use a headset or speaker phone. I recommend the Blue Tube Headset, it helps keep harmful cell phone radiation away. Cell phones affect neurotransmitter levels in the brain which can create cortisol problems, and in turn, can exacerbate menopausal symptoms. Children should be kept away from all of the above too. Q. What are you currently working on?
A: I'm writing a new course for the California College of Natural Medicine. This is a state-approved college I founded in 1994 to offer naturopathic training to health professionals. I continue to see people in my private practice but it's on more of a part-time basis now because of all of the research I'm working on. That's why I created systems and tools for people so they can heal themselves. I want them to feel good so they don't have to come back.Q: What's your favorite alternative health bodywork therapy?
A: If you're looking for a tool to help the body relax, I love reflexology. I also love rolfing. Rolfing is a hands-on manipulation that works on the connective tissue to release, realign and balance the whole body. I've been rolfed like 48 times. I think doing bodywork is amazing and it's important because the emotions get stuck in the tissues and fascia of the body and rolfing is an effective way to help move it. Q: Is there anything else you would like our readers to know?
A: Lots of women suffer from hair loss and I want them to know there's remedies to stop the hair loss in menopause. There's even natural homeopathic things you can do that can help men too. We have doctors who are skeptical but they'll call me back and report that hair is actually growing back. As I said before, I have created a lot of tools and I encourage people to check out my website and read my new book Revitalize Your Hormones: Dr. Dale's 7 Steps to a Happier, Healthier and Sexier You and pass it on to a woman you love. Women are entering menopause earlier and earlier. You don't need to be paranoid about these things, you just need to get a plan and stick to it.
