How to Choose a Supplement - Part II


In this second of a three part series, we’ll explore what makes good and bad clinical trials. Good results from good clinical trials are absolutely necessary before committing to the time and expense of taking a supplement.



What is a clinical trial?

From the supplement point of view, it is a scientific study of the effects of that supplement in human beings. It is NOT an animal study or a study carried out in test tubes. It is NOT a series of testimonials.

A testimonial is when someone tells you how well the supplement worked for them. It can paint a picture that is favorable for selling supplements, and can be very convincing, especially when an articulate, attractive person is pitching it.  However, it is no substitute for a good clinical trial.


Why are clinical trials so important?

They are the only reliable way to see if a supplement really works.  Just because it works for your Aunt Jane, Uncle Joe, a star athlete, or a supermodel (testimonials) doesn’t mean it will work for you or anybody else.

Why not just try it and see if it works for you. Several reasons:

  • Time. You may have to take it for weeks or months before you find out it doesn’t work.

  • Expense. Cost may exceed $30...
