H1N1 Swine Flu Virus Now Resistant to Tamiflu

The flu treatment Tamiflu may no longer be effective against all strains of the H1N1 Swine Flu virus. A Danish citizen who had already recieved doses of Tamiflu developed flu-like symptoms that eventually led the person to the Statens Serum Institute, where they were treated for swine flu; reports from the institute state that the person has recovered and is in good health.

It is not uncommon for viruses to mutate and adapt to drugs that are created to fight it, illustrated by what we have seen with the AIDS virus over the years.

Rocha, the creator of Tamiflu has been notified and has released a statement saying that they are working on the problem.

"While receiving the drug (Tamiflu), the patient appeared to develop resistance to it," said David Reddy, the leader of Rocha's pandemic research team.
