Everyone wants have a healthier mind and body, and you’re no exception.  But, you may be overwhelmed with all of the advertisements promoting miracle products that will help you lose weight or stay healthy.  Take, for instance, ridiculous claims that say you can lose pounds of weight with very little effort and by taking only one pill a day! More and more people are starting to learn that these miracle health cures are nothing more than gimmicks, and they are turning to natural herbs and spices for better health.  Which herbs and spices are the best? Let’s take a look at some top winners . . .

If you are concerned about your health, and are looking for an alternative to conventional medicine, then you want natural products you can take safely and that will produce results that have been proven for hundreds of years.

Herbs and spices have been used for centuries to spice up food as well as for their medicinal properties.  Early humans used herbs from the leaves of plants and later harvested them from bark, fruits, stems, buds and seeds.  While our ancient ancestors suspected herbs and spices had great health benefits, these suspicions are now being proven true with modern science.

Spices like cinnamon help the control the body’s blood sugar levels and can defend you against heart disease and type 2 diabetes.  Cilantro—along with other leafy, dark vegetables—contains high levels of vitamins A and K.  Cilantro also has dodecenal, known to work as an antibiotic; an even a better solution than many prescription antibiotics.

Parsley, rosemary and turmeric are all known for their cancer-fighting properties.  Parsley is good for the eyes as well, and turmeric might help reduce plaque in the brain associated with Alzheimer’s disease.  With all of these helpful properties, it is a wonder that more people don’t heap on these herbs and spices whenever they are cooking.

And there is one of the most famous herbs of all time: garlic. Garlic not only makes food taste great, but it is a powerful antioxidant that lowers lipids.  In cultures that regularly ingest garlic, there have been lower levels of gastric cancer.  Ginger is another tasty herb that works as an anti-inflammatory, defeating viral infections.  Ginger is also known to ease nausea.

Many herbs contain antioxidants that are instrumental in helping you stay young and have more energy.

Herbs can also be used to flavour food instead of salt. Your body craves natural products in order to maintain a healthy balance, so by using herbs and spices for better health, you will also be helping your food to taste better!

Of course, it’s not always easy to stay on top of eating right, cooking, and making sure you are heaping on the spices.  Make sure you have a variety of spices in your spice rack, and look for recipes online that utilize your favorite spices.  It really is a matter of taste, but also a matter of effort.

The best way to get into using herbs and spices everyday is to first understand that there are no rules!  As long as it tastes good, you may use your favorite herb or spice whenever you like.  Don’t be afraid to experiment with herbs and spices!
