FES2: Threat Analysis
FES2 Has been making recent headlines due to a discovery of the harmful substance in Chinese drywall used in hundreds of thousands of United States homes.
Originally thought to be confined in Florida, more and more reports of FES2 findings in homes are coming in from accross the United States. The CPSC (Consumer Products Safety Commission) has requested 2 million dollars from congress to investigate and ammend the problem. There are an estimated 5 million square feet of Chinese Drywall (containing FES2) in the United States at this time.
Should you be worried?
Chances are you are fine. Most of the cases have been discovered in florida, although many more are coming up accross the country. If you are in a state that has many FES2 cases you should check with the construction company that built your home. If you live in an older home you are most likely okay (unless recent additions have been made), because the FES2 Drywall was imported during the latest housing boom.
Be on the watch for the following signs and symptoms of an FES2 concentration in your home:
- Respiratory irritation
- Irritated eyes
- Persistent headaches
- Nose bleeds
- Difficulty breathing
Or other symptoms are similar to those of asthma, bronchitis, and other respiratory illnesses. These health concerns are causing many to leave their homes.
The young, elderly, and those with asthma and chemical sensitivities are particularly at risk.
If you suspect your house is contaminated with Chinese drywall, contact the EPA immediately.
