Dystonia Cure: Botox
Dystonia is a muscle disorder that is noticeable through the involuntary sustained muscle contractions it causes in those who are affected. People suffering from dystonia have random muscle spasms that case twisting and repetitive movements or abnormal posture.
Botox was introduced in the late 90’s as a therapy for disorders such as dystonia and has since become one of the most widely used treatments.
Botox is effective for most forms of dystonia including: Laryngeal, Oromandibular, Cervical, Focal Hand and Blepharospasm.
The only significant drawback of using the bacteria for dystonia is that the effects of long term use are not very well documented. On the other hand, Skogseid et al found that most patients with cervical dystonia enjoy a good health-related quality of life (HRQoL) after long-term botox therapy. Reduced HRQoL was associated with more severe disease and/or depressive symptoms.
