Don't Drink It: Diet Soda Puts Your Health in Danger

There are certain things on this earth that seem like a godsend. The wheel, cell phones, Astroturf . . .  the list goes on. In terms of foods and drinks, diet soda may seem like a godsend to some. After all, you get all (or most) of the taste without the calories. But is it really the next best thing since sliced bread? Not even close. Diet soda has been getting a bad rap for some time now, and emerging evidence against diet soda as a responsible choice continues to grow. Consider the following before the next time you hit the vending machine.

Americans drink a lot, that goes with out saying. From water and coffee, to soda and alcoholic beverages, the amount of liquid ingested per year per person is off the scale. Knowing this, people don’t want all those calories associated with certain drinks, like soda. And so they choose the diet version instead.

Is this really better? In short, NO.

Consider the following.

Science Says . . .
Studies are indicating that people who consume a lot of sweetened drinks, like diet sodas, have a great chance of developing a stronger craving for sweeter foods all around (such as desserts, bread, cereal, etc.). The obvious result (other than tooth decay): weight gain.

No Nutrients
Diet soda, just like soda has about zero nutrients. This means that if you’re drinking several bottles a day – even though you’re getting few calories – you’re ignoring healthier drinks, like green tea or natural fruit juices. Green tea contains important antioxidants, and fruit and vegetable juices contain essential vitamins and other nutrients. By replacing these options with diet soda, you’re putting your health in danger.

Dangerously Sweet
Let’s not forget about the sweetener contained in most diet sodas: Aspartame. This gem is 180 times sweeter than sugar and probably 180 times worse. Research indicates that high amounts of aspartame have led to a number of health conditions, including something as potentially dangerous as brain tumors. Other reported side effects include dizziness, memory loss, headaches, mood changes, and diarrhea.

As more research is conducted on diet soda and sweeteners such as aspartame, even more negative health effects are likely to be revealed. Don’t compromise your health any longer – kick your soda habit (diet or regular) today.
