Development of a Highly Absorbable CoQ10 Product
The absorption of CoQ10 in any product form is apparently very low. With an increasing demand for CoQ10 in larger doses required to attain more effective therapeutic blood levels there is a need for higher absorbable and more stable CoQ10 products.
In assessing the physical haracteristics of the CoQ10 molecule that controls it absorption we have found three major factors affecting its absorption and therefore the bioavailability. These factors are:
1. Single molecule instead of crystalline products. The body will not absorb a crystal and the CoQ10 crystal melting point in a lipid is 10º C above body temperature. Thus, very little of crystalline CoQ10 product may be dissolved to single molecules in the intestines and therefore absorbed.
2. Stabilize the single molecules in a lipid suspension so that they will not re-crystalize at below room temperatures.
3. Provide an appropriate lipid carrier molecule to facillate the passive diffusion absorption process.
Knowing that CoQ10 is lipid soluble and it requires a lipid carrier molecule in the passive facillated diffusion absorption process, we decided to develop an all lipid CoQ10 product. The first effort was to find a lipid solvent in which CoQ10 crystals could be dissolved to...
