Chronic Pain Relief NOT from a Bottle

When was the last time you took a pain reliever? A few days ago? Yesterday? Maybe only a few hours ago? If you suffer from chronic pain – whether in your back, neck, joints or anywhere else, taking a pain reliever (prescription or over-the-counter) may be an everyday ritual. But do you always get relief? Perhaps you’ve tried one after another, hoping the next one will do the trick, but only end up disappointed once again at its ineffectiveness.

Well, perhaps it’s time to try a new method. An alternative method.

Let’s take a look . . .

There are many different types of pain - from mild, to acute to chronic. In many occasions, pain is caused by illnesses or injuries and can be felt as a mild throbbing, or as a stabbing or burning sensation.

But despite the differences in pain, and the different causes, one thing remains the same – pain hurts.

Many more people are now starting to turn to natural alternatives and ingredients rather than resorting to prescription medications. Concerns over addiction, as well as side effects associated with many such drugs have encouraged more people to seek such natural pain relief methods.

Alternative treatments to chronic pain may include - but are not limited to acupuncture, local electrical stimulation, yoga, meditation, and herbal treatments and supplements. Herbal treatments and ingredients have been used for thousands of years to treat a variety of illnesses, disease processes, and pain. Acupuncture is a 2000-year-old Chinese technique that provides relief for many suffering from chronic pain, through the process of stimulating nerve endings that activate the release of endorphins, the body's natural pain relievers.

Local electrical stimulation, more often lay known, as TENS, is a common alternative treatment used by those dealing with chronic pain. A TENS unit is able to artificially stimulate nerve endings, which helps to prevent transmission of pain signals to the brain, alleviating and sometimes even eliminating pain.

The use of herbs in treating illnesses, diseases, as well as pain is growing in popularity due to increasing rise of drug costs. Home remedies using herbs often provide adequate pain relief for symptoms that range from mild to moderate caused by illnesses like colds and flu's to muscle strains, severe bruising, and even cuts and lacerations. Many people also rely on these types of natural alternative treatments for more serious illnesses and diseases such as cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, as well as in the treatment of diabetes and heart disease.

Another alternative pain treatment may include hydrotherapy. Hydrotherapy helps to relieve joint pain and inflammation, as well as to stimulate the circulation of blood throughout the body through the use of water applied in a sauna, compress, or bath.

Massage therapy is excellent in reducing pain that is caused by arthritis, fibromyalgia, and muscle strains as well as migraines. Exercise forms such as tai chi and yoga help to increase not only strength and balance, but to reduce pain caused by arthritis and stiff joints.

A newer form of alternative pain treatment called prolotherapy involves the injection of a solution into the connective  tissues of the body. The relatively new treatment helps to relieve the pain of osteoarthritis. This method actually produces inflammation in an affected area, which is believed to hasten and promote the healing process.

Regardless of the type of pain you are experiencing, you now have options other than the pain-relief promises that come in a bottle. And really now, don’t you deserve to be pain-free?
