Botox Publicity Stunt

Is free botox for unemployed Americans going to put smiles on faces accross the country? Perhaps not, but atleast it will prevent them from frowning.

Reveal Cosmetics located in Washington, D.C. has decided to give a metaphorical facelift to the recession, in an effort to remove wrinkles and create a little more income for themselves in these harsh times.

Not only is the event giving out free Botox injections, but will host a variety of recruiters who will be taking resumes and offering on-site interviews.

Beverly Hills Facelift participants are required to bring their updated resume, as well as proof of unemployment.
Some people are seeing wrinkles in this type of promotion.

"While I certainly can appreciate that a medical practice would want to get their name out using a promotion like this, I really feel there are better ways. Granted these types of promotions can be effective, they are easily spotted for being just that, promotional,” says Ben Cooke, President and Founder of Lucid Public Relations, a Public Relations Los Angeles company.

"Free Botox, gift certificates, gas cards are all overused promotional methods. There are better, more creative ways to get attention. The best publicity is neither promotional nor exploitative and shouldn’t even be recognizable as publicity; rather it should be seen and recognized as news. In today’s environment every journalist you talk to is doing stories on the recession, it is only natural for a publicist to link their client to what journalists want. ”
