Benefits of Bikram Yoga


What this life-changing exercise did for me . . . and can do for you as well.

 After years of running and ski injuries, I found myself with severe pain in my back. Unable to exercise and barely capabale of moving, my doctor told me I had degenerative disk disease with ruptured L4 and L5 disks in my back. It was then I found Bikram Yoga and my life changed.


The number one benefit for me personally was the immediate knowledge that it would help me stay as fit as I had been as a younger woman for the rest of my life. Practicing Bikram Yoga helped eliminate the severe pain in my back, hip and neck. It restored the sense of joy for life I used to feel when I was able to run.  Running destroyed my spine, and this yoga has healed it. Because of my regular Bikram Yoga practice, I take no pain medication at all and my  peri-menopausal symptoms pretty much disappear when practicing regularly. You sleep more soundly, skin becomes softer, and energy levels are like being 10 to 15 years younger. 


Bikram Yoga helps bring together that mind and body connection which helps quiet the stressed and overwhelmed mind so that you are able to see more clearly what is important in life. Bikram Yoga is truly a 90-minute meditation--you literally detoxify your body every class. Since beginning practicing at the age of 49, I have not been sick once. It gives you a sense of inner peace and strength to handle anything life may throw at you.


Bikram's guru said, "It is never too late, you are never too old or sick to start from scratch again." To me, there was never a more true statement. Yoga is natural to all human bodies--you just have to start and be patient with yourself.
