Alternative Medicine Today

Alternative medicine today seems to be on the rise and becoming more of a mainstream option. Dr. Svetlana Kogan of The Doctors At Trump Place expalins the place of alternative medicine today.

To me the term 'Alternative Medicine' has never literally meant what it conveys phonetically; An alternative to what?  Pehaps, an alternative to conventional medications, surgeries, and invasive procedures.  Rather, I had always perceived  'Alternative Medicine  as a constellation of natural means to tap into the bodies own self-healing capacity.  This self-healing ability of every human being has been largely overlooked by the mainstream Western medical education, especially allopathic one.

Fortunately, the picture is slowly changing: many allopathic programs across the country have incorporated 'alternative' subjects into their curricula.  But the dogma still prevails in medical circles: hard core science over mind-body concepts.

When I speak of Energy Medicine, most of my colleagues look at me as though I have gone mad.  After all, how are they going to believe that that a painless 25 minute procedure which fine-tunes the organs by emitting pulsed electro-magnetic waves is more than a hoax?  In support of energy medicine, I embark on lengthy explanations, citing sporadic scientific evidence, but mostly mine and other practitioner's clinical evidence.

My medical diploma, board certified status and a successful career in medicine help pave the way for popularizing holistic therapies in general, and energy medicine in particular, to my doctor friends.

Yes, I would like to employ healthier Alternatives.

When my patient, who suffered from severe osteoarthritis and could not walk up the subway stairs without stopping on every step grimacing in pain, came asking for help, I turned to energy medicine.   It took over 14 half-hour sessions of Ondamed therapy in my office to wean him off Celebrex completely.  It took another 5 sessions, to enable  him to go on a biking wilderness tour with his wife.

Electromagnetism is my answer to steroid injections and dangerous pills.  I think we owe it  to ourselves and to our patients to open up our minds to new concepts and ideas in diagnosis and treatment, however "out there" they may seem to the most skeptical doctors.

Dr. Svetlana Kogan, MD. board certified in Internal Medicine, is a Cornell University graduate.  She is affiliated with Lenox Hill Hospital and a member of both the American Medical Association and the American Anti-Aging Academy. Dr. Kogan founded Doctors at Trump Place (http://www.dtpdoctors.com/drkogan.html) in New York City. Doctors at Trump Place was originally founded on the premise that allopathic (traditional) medicine can and should thrive in harmony with alternative medicine, a blend of Western and Eastern medicine to provide 360 optimal care to patients.
